Political toxicity to continue domination
It would sure be nice to take a break from the nonstop political news after Tuesday’s midterm election, but I think most of us are pretty sure that’s not going to happen.
The day after, we’re hearing spins from all of the important figures in the political realm, claiming victory over their opponents and explaining away the losses. More importantly, though, is that the campaign trail for 2020 is about to begin.
Remember the 2016 presidential election? Candidates started as early as December 2014 announcing their intention to run, but Republican Sen. Ted Cruz was the first major candidate to do so on March 23, 2015. After that, announcement of candidacies went from a trickle to a flood from March to June, ending with 17 major Republican candidates and a handful of Democratic candidates hoping to win the presidency. Over the next 20 months, things got nasty, both within party primaries and in the general election. At the end, it felt like struggling through a river of sewage filled with broken bottles, just to find a small strip of land with another river of sewage on the other side.
